Five works of contrasting nature, representing at least three (3) different style periods are required for the first three rounds.
The first round must include a work from the Baroque period and the second round must include a work from the Classical period. Works may not be repeated in these rounds.
If there are no original works for this style period for instruments other than the piano, a written request to present an alternative work may be submitted.
This request must be addressed to the Chairman, SASMT Tygerberg, and must include a copy of the score.
First round: Two contrasting works (one Baroque). Second round: Two new contrasting works (one Classical) Third round: Two contrasting works: one work from a previous round and a work of your choice not yet performed. Final round: Three works - a programme compiled from the previous rounds.
Piano concertos or movements of concertos may not be performed. Other instrumentalists may perform such works.
The competition takes place over four rounds. All participants take part in the first two rounds.
A candidate will only by allowed on one instrument.
The maximum duration of works for the first and second round is ten minutes, and fifteen minutes for the third and final round. Should the participant exceed the allowed time, he/she may be asked to stop his/her presentation.
All repetitions must be ignored, except in the case of Da Capo.
