Sanlam Sky Solutions is one of the leading financial services providers in the entry level market in South Africa. The company is a division of Sanlam Developing Markets Limited, an authorised financial services provider.

Consisting of 41 Sales Branches and 19 Client Service Centres, the company conducts business through approximately:

• 140 independent brokers;
• 1110 tied agents;
• 14 independent Client Contact Centres;
• 300 Client Contact Centre seats exclusively selling Sanlam Sky products; and
• a permanent staff compliment of approximately 500. 

Our achievements

The company has a proud pioneering record. It was first to:

• Introduce a "cooling-off" period;
• Pay a major portion of any death claim immediately to assist with funeral expenses;
• Introduce wider family cover;
• Offer a Burial Repatriation Benefit, which transports the deceased and a family member to a chosen burial site;
• Introduce free legal advice;
• As a listed insurance company, be majority-owned by shareholders representing the black community;
• Lift HIV/Aids exclusions and limitations on all existing and new policies; and
• Develop a funeral solution with a survivor plan in 2007 – a solution that pays out money to clients for taking care of themselves and staying alive.
• In October 2007, the company was awarded their Investors in People (IiP) Accreditation on its first attempt. This accreditation is the way forward to be an Employer of Choice. It ensures its people management processes provide staff with the knowledge, skills and motivation required to perform effectively.  Staff members performing at their optimum ensure a company's success.

We are also proud to be the underwriter for the Zion Christian Church (ZCC). In August 1991, the two organisations established a group scheme that provides funeral cover to the members of the ZCC.

Apart from the valuable experience gained in running a large micro insurance operation, we have accomplished genuine empowerment as a result of the ZCC taking ownership of the administration of the scheme. This has opened the door to various longer-term opportunities.
