During his tenure, Mr Nkosi was the Chair of the Social, Ethics and Sustainability Committee, a member of the Non-Executive Directors Committee and the Chair of the Independent Non-Executive Directors and Nominations Committees.
Mr Nkosi is an expert in governance, marketing and general business.
After the 2020 AGM that was held, Mr Nkosi’s director status was re-categorised, whereafter he served on the Board as a Non-Independent non-executive member since 11 June 2020. He therefore stepped down as the Group’s LID as well as Chair and member of the Independent Non-Executive Committee.
Mr Nkosi is a member of the Risk Committee of the Council at the Wits University and also serves on a number of company boards including Sanlam. He has been serving on the Executive Council of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa since November 2006. He currently serves as Non-executive Chair of Talent10 Holdings, and assumed the role of Board Chair of Sasol from November 2019. He also serves on the Boards of KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Tronox and Partners for Possibility (PFP).
Mr Nkosi is the past president of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa. Prior to his appointment to the Council, he played a meaningful role as a member of the Chamber’s Collieries Committee.
Mr Nkosi served as the CEO of Exxaro Resources Limited from 2007. Prior to this, he was one of the founders and the CEO of Eyesizwe Coal, and Country Manager of ABB Alstom Power (SA), having previously worked with Anglo Coal and Ingwe. He managed the key portfolio of marketing manager responsible for international coal mining at Ingwe following four years with Anglo. While with Ingwe Mr Nkosi travelled and extensively gained an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the coal industry worldwide.
In November 2012, Mr Nkosi was the South African winner in the Master Entrepreneur Category of the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Award and represented South Africa at the Global Awards in Monte Carlo in June 2013. On 18 October 2013, he received the Tinie Louw Award at the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut’s National Congress for his business leadership and in 2015 he received the Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award at the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM).
Mr Nkosi holds the following degrees: BCom (University of Zululand), BCom Hons (Econ) (Unisa) and MBA (University of Massachusetts, USA). He also holds a Diploma in Marketing Management (Unisa), and he completed the Advanced Management Programme at the University of Oxford in the UK.
