Across the Salam Investment Group we strive to attract, develop, motivate and retain some of the most valuable people in the industry. As one of the largest investment management companies in South Africa, we provide employees with personal growth opportunities and exposure to the complete end-to-end range of investment solutions for our clients.
We focused on the following development initiatives in 2019, recognising that the quality of our line managers is one of the single biggest factors in ensuring our long-term success:
Today’s rapidly changing and digitised work environment requires leaders who know who they are, what they stand for, can lead with purpose and impact, and are resilient. They should help employees stay focused, work towards a common goal, provide a sense of belonging and security, and achieve high performance. Sanlam Investment Group engaged with The Human Edge in partnership with The Arbinger Institute (RSA) to develop a customised curriculum for the Leadership in Action Line Manager programme. The Leadership in Action Development programme is designed for the new manager of others and equips participants, inter alia, to build the self-insight and awareness that is so critical to managing one's impact. Importantly, this also includes leading others for high levels of engagement and performance, particularly during times of change and ensuring they are able to hold the courageous conversations which drive high levels of accountability. A total of 24 managers have been enrolled into the programme.
Towards the end of 2019 we launched a new Graduate programme with 11 participants embarking on a structured development journey over 15 months. The objective is to ensure these graduates are able to move into their roles as fully functional, high-performing talent on an accelerated career journey. The programme aims to meet business requirements by establishing a diverse talent pipeline of young people who will become future leaders, and fill scarce and critical roles within the business. Young talent will bring additional value through their tech-savvy and fresh perspectives. The programme has a strong transformation approach and 100% of the participants are African, Indian and Coloured.
